About Hilltop

Hilltop Florist & Greenhouse has been growing in Mankato for over 150 years. Founded in 1880 as Windmiller Florist. Oswald Windmiller (a German immigrant) delivered flowers and vegetables going up and down the steep Madison Avenue hill with a horse-drawn cart offering the Mankato area the freshest flowers and vegetables in Southern Minnesota.

In 1935, Opal & Bill Fratzke purchased the greenhouses from the Windmiller family. In 1957, Marguerite and Ed Keane bought it. Noel Van Tol and Larry Van Tol purchased the company from Noel’s parents, Marguerite and Ed, in 1976 and continue the long standing tradition of freshness, quality and 100% customer satisfaction.

42,000 square feet of greenhouse is dedicated to growing our own product including:

        Seven varieties of roses, mums, calla lilies, stephanotis, freesia, iris, daffodils, tulips, hibiscus, poinsettias, easter lilies,

        sunflowers and all bulb stock.

        This unique feature allows us to provide you, our customer, with the freshest cut flowers and the highest quality blooming

        & green plants in the Southern Minnesota area.

10,000 square feet of greenhouse dedicated to an extensive array of green and blooming plants:

        This area hosts a variety of plants from orchids to cacti and is a haven for visitors during the long Minnesota winters.

        Green-thumbed customers love to see the broad variety and even those who struggle with growing can ask all the questions they 

        need.  Our professional and friendly staff will break down the information.

7,500 square feet retail shopping area is a shopper's delight and an experience that treats all senses:
